Beautiful, elegant, and functional -- a single pane of glass covers the entire front of the television, including the bezel. This design reduces or eliminates the "halo" effect that can occur around lettering and logos with traditional 3-pane designs | Amazing color reproductionThe incredible black reproduction of a Panasonic High-Definition Plasma TV results in impressive contrast and beautiful, natural colors. So you'll get warm, accurate skin tones, gorgeous greens, breathtaking blues and vivid reds. For color that's as rich and bold as life itself, look to a Panasonic Plasma TV. |
| Consistent brightness from any angleA Panasonic Plasma combines anti-glare and anti-reflection technology with the natural light-emitting properties of plasma, to give you a super-wide viewing range with a crisp, beautiful image from almost any angle. |
![]() | Smooth, graceful motionWhen you're watching sports or movies with fast-motion graphics, you want a TV that can keep up with the action. With over 900 lines of moving picture, self-illuminating plasma displays eliminate afterimages in fast-action scenes. So whether you're watching a sporting event or an action-packed movie, you'll always get the most impressive viewing experience possible. |
![]() | 24p native reproductionMovies are shot at 24 frames per second. Unfortunately, TVs operating at 60Hz can only refresh 20 times per second, which means they must drop every fifth frame. With its 2008 Viera PZ85, PZ800, and PZ850 models, Panasonic introduces 24p native resolution, which means 24 frame per second movie content is reproduced frame for frame exactly, making for true-to-source smoothness of motion. |
![]() | 1,000,000:1 ContrastThe Panasonic's Real Black system (a pre-discharge suppression system) and improved panel production processes combine to reproduce outstanding blacks with superb contrast. Each image is richly expressive, from bright scense, like scorching desert landscapes, to dark cave scenes. Compare the image produced by conventional HDTV on the left to the Real Black image produced on the right |
![]() | More ColorsViera HDTVs support the xvYCC color profile (Extended YCC Colorimetry for Video Applications), or "x.v. color" for short. Standard RGB color space allows the display of a portion of the colors that are viewable to the human eye. The next generation "xvYCC" color space actually offers an available range of colors that exceeds what human eyes can recognize.
|
![]() | Deep ColorWhere x.v. color expands the available range of colors your HDTV can display, Deep Color increases the number of colors your HDTV can display within that range, for smoother transitions from color to color.

Customer Review: Beautiful!!
I am very impressed with this Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U. I've only had it for a short time but I like what I see so far. There are no negatives to associate with this product. I don't have a blue ray hooked up to it as yet, so I have not experience true 1080p. I am looking forward to that experience.
Customer Review: Upgrade to a Panasonic TH-50PZ800U
This unit is as advertized, an excellent 50" 1080P HDTV. The Panasonic model TH-50PZ800U is also rated high in Consumer Reports. I would have preferred that this TV had "cable card" capability and "TV Guide", which we had on our Panasonic TH-42PX600U, 720P HDTV, that was replaced with the new 50" HDTV. Because the new TV does not use a cable card (rented from cable company) we needed to rent a higher cost HD receiver from the cable company which adds complexity. Since this is a top of the line unit I would think Panasonic would not try to diminish its capabilty. We were so satisfied with the 42" Panasonic, that we used for 3 years, we wanted to stay with the Panasonic brand. Delivery was as promised with enhanced delivery from CEVA, which is a free Amazon service for TV's over 40". The delivery man was knowledgeable and courteous. He did not leave until it was ascertained that the TV was set up and working properly. This is a great service!
When looking for a refurbished HDTV, what features should you look for? Well, what features to look for in a TV, depends primarily on your circumstances and the reason for buying a TV. In this article, we will discuss the lcd vs. plasma debate, and what you should look for in a refurbished HDTV. After all, a refurbished HDTV is like a new one.
Okay, so there's this universal debate about HDTVs: lcd or plasma. Following are the good points to each.
Lcd: If you'll use the TV mainly for games and also as a computer monitor - then choose the lcd. Also, if your room has a lot of direct sunlight, and you'll view the HDTV when it's bright, an lcd is a better choice.
Plasma: But if you're passionate about watching movies, or if you watch a lot of sports and you need to be able to really see the action well - then a plasma tv will be better, because of its instant response time and high refresh rate. And if you watch TV during the evening, or you close the blinds during the day to block out the light, then a plasma tv fits the bill.
Plasma TVs definitely have more depth (especially its ability to render deeper blacks) than lcd. But it also generates more heat and weighs more.
So, basically the features to look for are the same in a refurbished HDTV and a new TV. After all, the refurbished HDTV is like new; if it's factory refurbished it has passed the test to meet or exceed factory standards. And it has been tested that it works perfectly, too. But, since it can't legally be sold as a new unit, it's to your advantage. When buying a refurbished HDTV, you end up getting so much more value for your money, i.e. bigger size, more features, etc.
One major thing to look out for when buying a refurbished HDTV is to buy it from a reputable dealer. The number one concern when looking for any refurbished product is if it's safe. Spending even a dime for a broken TV is like throwing money in the garbage.
